What Ailment is Considered Acute vs. Chronic?

In Homeopathy, a patient’s condition is considered either acute or chronic:
Acute – an ailment that just ‘pops up’ or an injury that has a singular cause.
Chronic – a long-term illness or condition that is either permanent or cyclical in nature.

Sometimes the line between acute and chronic isn’t clear to a layperson, but a competent Homeopath can discern between the two. The acute symptoms of a chronic condition can be treated to provide temporary relief, but chances are that the condition will return. For example, if someone is experiencing a headache, Homeopathy can provide immediate relief, but if a person has headaches regularly then a chronic consultation should be considered.

Some patients who do not yet have confidence in Homeopathy may not want to invest their time and money to deal with chronic ailments. Seeing a Homeopath for an acute condition (which requires minimal investment) will give confidence that Homeopathy can help with more deep-seated conditions. Like all medical treatments, Homeopathy is not guaranteed to cure your ailments. The experience of Anamika’s patients bears testimony to the sometimes surprising power of Homeopathy.

Acute conditions can be anything from the flu to a bee sting, a sprained ankle to fever blisters. The effectiveness of Homeopathy can be observed in a period of minutes to within 24 hours. Many common acute ailments can be handled effectively by Homeopathy. If you have specific questions, please contact Anamika.

It is helpful to become acquainted with a Homeopath before you need their help for acute conditions because one’s first instinct is to take conventional medicine or even herbal remedies that either suppress the symptoms (which ultimately causes deeper conditions to develop) or may not have been clinically proven effective for the condition at hand.

Because Classical Homeopathy is extremely individualized, it is important to see a qualified Homeopath to get the correct remedy. Self-diagnosing with Homeopathy is much safer than with conventional over-the-counter medicine, but there are still real risks. First of all, if the remedy doesn’t work, as the label in the store suggests (i.e. for sore throats and unproductive cough), then one may get the impression that Homeopathy is ineffective. It is also important to remember that Homeopathic remedies are medicines and abuse or improperly taking any medicine or over medicating is harmful to one’s long-term health.

For example, take the case of a severe toothache. A client, familiar with Anamika’s proficiency as a Classical Homeopath, called as the pain was escalating. The gum was inflamed and a dentist recommended a full course of antibiotics, before a root canal operation could be performed, and pain killers to appease the patient. Within a day after taking the homeopathic remedy, the patient saw a noticeable effect, and the condition improved without needing the antibiotics or pain killers. Within a week all that was left was a sore tooth – the infection had been beaten by the body’s own immune system, with the stimulation from homeopathic medicine prescribed by a proficient homeopath. Without knowing Anamika, this patient would have certainly paid over $1500 for a root canal and crown.

Homeopathy can also be used effectively in conjunction with conventional medicine to hasten recovery times after injuries or medical surgeries and to mitigate the negative effects of conventional pharmaceuticals.

Chronic conditions ranging from allergies to chronic migraines, from depression to diabetes can be treated effectively with Homeopathy. Patients often come with one main complaint, and are pleasantly surprised to find significant improvement in many aspects of their physical and emotional health.

What to Expect from Homeopathic Treatment

You should expect a holistic approach and improved health; after all that is why you are considering homeopathic treatment. Homeopathy is able to help many people that could not find success with conventional medicine.

Every person is unique, and quite complex. Homeopaths seek to distill and synthesize the essence of a patient’s complaints, emotions, habits, attractions and aversions into a symptom picture whereby the correct and unique remedy can be selected for the individual.

Homeopathy can act quickly and effectively for a wide range of common and obscure ailments. Homeopathy helps to heal on all levels – physical, mental, and emotional. It is important to understand that Homeopathy treats the individual, and not the disease. You can expect improvement in all aspects of your physical and mental health.

Homeopathy heals gently. Homeopathic treatment accelerates the natural healing patterns of the body and restores one’s vitality. There are times during treatment that a “Homeopathic aggravation” occurs, which is a temporary intensifying of the symptoms prior to a full and rapid recovery. Although symtoms may flare up, in general the person will feel well and confident that healing is taking place. Aggravations can be a very good sign that the correct medicine was selected.

How to Prepare for First Visit?

The first visit for patients with chronic ailments is vital to the success of your treatment. The homeopath needs to get a complete picture of you, as a whole person. It is important for you to increase your awareness – of both physical and mental sensations related to your ailment(s) prior to the appointment. Expect the conversation to span a wide range of issues, and please be open and honest in your sharing. During your initial consultation, conversation will focus on:

  • Specific symptoms you are experiencing – what aggravates them, what alleviates them, what times of day are they more prominent etc.
  • Personal patterns – including food, sleep, urination and bowel movements, etc.
  • Personal views – hopes, fears, anxieties, etc.

The initial consultation usually takes between one and two hours. Follow-up appointments are usually made within two to four weeks to evaluate the progress and to determine further course of treatment.

What are the Fees?

Homeopathy is an extremely affordable system of medicine. Consider the costs and savings of Homeopathic treatment:

  1. Homeopathic remedies are included in the cost of treatment. Typically, conventional medicines need to be taken repeatedly and for an extended period. If you take medicine (including herbal remedies) regularly, you are aware of the financial costs. Homeopathic medicines are often long acting and require only a few doses. After Homeopathic treatment, many people find that they can reduce or perhaps even eliminate previous medications.
  2. Many conditions will simultaneously improve. In conventional medicine, it is sometimes observed that after ‘curing’ one ailment, another ‘unrelated’ ailment arises; this is due to suppression of symptoms. In Homeopathy, patients are treated as whole, integral beings – and remedies are selected according to the uniqueness of the individual. As a result of Homeopathic treatment patients may see dramatic physical and mental improvements in areas thought to be unrelated.
  3. Affordability. The high costs of conventional health care are widely publicized. The annual cost of Homeopathic treatment for a chronic condition is less than what many people pay for insurance premiums alone (not to mention the cost of medical office visits).
  4. Whole Person Treatment. Clients are given the time that they deserve when seeing a health care provider. Classical Homeopaths seek to understand the individual patient as a whole, complete person. Anamika will sit with you and listen to all of the relevant (and sometimes irrelevant) information pertaining to each case. Only when a patient’s unique picture has been assembled can the correct remedy be selected. Homeopathy is incapable of treating the fragments – it must treat the whole.
